Large projects require enduring drive, motivation,
and, perhaps most importantly, momentum.
Maintaining the pace of the work and incremental
progress, through good and bad, dirty and fun, and
ups and downs, is the key towards reaching the goal
of completion and subsequent enjoyment of the fruits
of labor. The journey may be part of the pleasure,
but ultimately it’s the vision of the end result
that drives the everyday process. To that end, it’s
important to maintain project momentum; to stray
from the job for any significant period can make it
far too easy for focus to drift and to lose clarity
of purpose.
Each step, however small, is critical towards
maintaining this momentum, lest the project
stagnate. Momentum, often requiring the elimination
of other diversions, is the core ideal towards
achieving the vision, and without it, any project is
doomed to unwanted and substantial delay or even
(often) failure.
Our boat decided to name herself Momentum
for this reason. It’s truly the essence of what the
rebuild—and therefore the boat—is all about, and is
what keeps the process underway week after week.
Consequently, it seems apt that she be so named.
The concept coalesced into its own reality during
the hundreds of hours spent so far on the rebuild.
As a corollary, it’s substantially clear that this
14,500 lb. boat will truly have her own momentum
once in the water, further reinforcing to us the
suitability of the name.
